The competition started in 1973 (then called the Copenhagen X-mas Competition) when The Heather Pipes & Drums of Copenhagen and The Copenhagen Caledonia Pipe Band (then called The White Hackle Pipe Band) had PM Angus MacDonald over for some lessons.

Back then we only had about 27 entries competing in "Slow Air", "March" & "Medley for Trios" - all competitions were for the pipes! Since then the competition has grown a lot bigger and we now have about 250 entries in 22 competitions including: Slow Air, March, March/Strathspey/Reel, Hornpipe/Jig, Piobaireachd, Drumsalute & Quintets - with competitions for both pipers and drummers
